The new Todholm School building houses a primary school with associated nursery and replaces an ageing and outdated building.

Constructed using Hanson Structherm's FastbuildT prefabricated concrete building system, which is a Modern Method of Construction (MMC), the building offers significantly improved facilities and accommodation that reflects the increasing number of pupils.

Construction of the contemporary design presented many challenges for the contractor. With the old school remaining open there were additional health and safety issues, heavily trafficked access roads and limited space on site.

Hanson Structherm's FastbuildT system offered many innovative solutions to these problems. The prefabricated concrete panels were safely and easily transported to, and manoeuvred on site. The quickly constructed dry shell structure allowed fast progression of the follow on trades.

Hanson Structherm worked closely with the contractor's design team and was able to adjust the design of the school to use a minimal amount of crosswalls in the structure. This allows for future internal upgrades to be completed simply and cost effectively without compromising the performance of the building.

This highlights the benefits and flexibility of both the Fastbuild system and Hanson Structherm's support services in offering a total solution and meeting the evolving needs of both the client and the contractor with Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
